There are lots of ways to make travel easier and more convenient nowadays. Everyone knows travel Apps and websites like TripAdvisor, Skyscanner or Lonely Planet. Beyond that exist numerous Apps that claim to be useful for travelling. We gathered our 5 favourites and we are quite sure you don’t know all of them (yet).

This cool app is a hybrid of magazine and travel site. 

Apart from Things to do, Places to Stay and Food & Drink it even has a section for Music. Similar to Airbnb it lets you plan trips and save places. Experiences might be a bit pricey for some but you can gather great ideas for excursions and explore the local prices for tours later. Their Travel Guide is amazing, it suggests inspiring things to do in the city of your choice. That might be the most beautiful beach, best restaurant, cutest town, markets etc. Some places even have virtual tours. Another feature is Near Me which lets you discover insider recommendations. Very user friendly with a beautiful layout.

A must for any off the beaten path travel enthusiast.This app helps you find nearby places on a map with all amenities, descriptions and reviews. Distance, altitude and pet friendliness are only some of the things shown on iOverlander. You can even update existing information, if for example a campground is closed. All features except viewing maps work offline. 

What we like about iOverlander is that it is a nonprofit project. It is run by volunteers, so if you feel this travel app has saved you time, petrol or cash, you can consider a small donation.

A true lifesaver! This travel app is a favourite amongst backpackers because it can be used offline. You only need to download the map of your choice beforehand. It is one of the most valuable apps, whether you are stuck in Barcelona traffic or need to find your way through the Peruvian Amazon. Hiking trails and off road routes are named on this app and you will for sure never get lost again.

4. Happy Cow

Are you vegan? Then you are going to love this app. It shows the best raw food and vegan options all over the world. You might even surprise your carnivorous friends with some of the amazing places that will show up on your screen. The section Meet Vegans & Vegetarians nearby or worldwide is a nice feature for solo travelers. It allows you to connect with likeminded people in your area. Happy Cow even lists top vegan friendly cities and has a forum where everything from vegan sunscreen to different diets is discussed.

This travel app has gotten quite some attention lately. Whether you are on a 2 week holiday, backpacking for 6 months or a digital nomad, this is one of the coolest ways of getting to know local people and customs. Surely everyone has used Google Translate at some point. But....did you know this app is translating your sentences even when you are not connected to Wifi? You can already start practicing on the flight and know the greeting words in Burmese when you look for your bus or taxi.
